Precautions and Standard for having the Standard Eye Sight in order to be a Legitimate Rider

Having a secure motorcycle ride depends on many factors. You can categorize these factors according to your own perception. These categories can be pure motorcycle related, motorcyclists related and luggage carrying requirements related. The factors that are related only to motorcycle include some measurements like the motorcycle should be properly checked before going to the ride. Similarly there are measures related to the safety of motorcyclist. Here are given some requirement both from the ruling perspective and from general perspective while riding your motorcycle:

Avoid riding your Motorcycle if you are drunk:
Most of the road accidents occur because the driver from one of the two parties was drunk. Even if you wait after drinking that your condition gets stable, the alcohol leaves impact on your eye sight. The two very bad side effects of alcohol are
·         The excessive drinking affects the central vision badly, causing interruption during the ride. This eye site loss is mostly permanent.
·         There can be loss of clear vision after having an overnight drinking.
However it is not compulsory that all the people will suffer from these two impacts of drinking alcohol. It is better to not take risk of drinking before riding motorcycle.

   1)      The Two Standards By DVLA:
Here we have two standards provided by Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) which are required to be met for having reasonable eye sight for the riding a motorcycle:

   2)      How much should be the Visual Acuity:
By saying visual acuity we mean to say the sharpness of the eyesight. According to law a rider must be able to read a number plate with or without using glasses or contact lenses from a certain distance. Below are given the two eye sight requirements for being able to be a legitimate rider on public roads:

   1)      The rider must be able to read the content from a distance of 20.5 meters (67 feet) or 20 meters in case of narrower writing style that is 50 mm wide.

   2)      In case of wearing glasses and contact lenses the rider’s visual acuity must be 6/12 that is 0.5 decimal of both eyes or from one eyes in case the rider is having only one eye.

It is very important to meet the above mentioned requirements for the having the standard eye acuity for riding a motorcycle on the road.

Must have a Clear Field of Vision:
Field of vision means the area which our sight covers when we make a straight look. Having a clear field of vision means when you look straight everything in sight should be clearly visible to you. In case of loss of sight of one eye, the other eye must have the full vision.
Considering the above mentioned precaution and standards, you can have a lawful ride on your motorcycle.
